Antique furniture and terminology demystified

There are many people that have the habit to collect and shop a lot of stuff, they are obsessed with the antiques but rarely know what they are buying. Many of us for example would be interested in getting drawers and dressers for our home but won’t really know what they are called. Many would call it a highboy and some might love to term it as chiffonier. There is a simple question why?

The answer too is quite simple actually this task is a bit confusing sometimes we go and buy things that are more or less the same and we do not exactly know what the difference is.

Now let us see what a sideboard and a buffet is, often these terms are used either ways for the other one. But they are more or less the same things that work probably the best way. French buffet is a small sideboard that is used for storing the dishes and even utensils. At times a sideboard might look bigger than the buffet but they serve the same work and are used for the same purposes.

Now getting aside from this example lets visit the bedroom again, here the example is for the highboy and the chiffonier, they both are the same types of dressers or drawers but the size of both of them are different. This is what the difference is, but the way they are referred makes them feel different but they are the same.

Now armoire, is it a type of wardrobe that we use?

Both of these are used to store clothes, both might look the same, but wardrobe are mostly smaller in size while on the contrary armoires are larger in size, yet there look is the same and they might give the same appearance.

There are some wardrobes that are designed for men; these are mostly the English wardrobes. They have higher area that is used for hanging clothes and other materials. There is a side where we can place the leather stuff, this is mainly made to store such items. They are not only good in storing but due to their use and style are gaining lots of popularity.

The difference in the terminology that is being used is the reason why sometimes the preference of the person changes. The piece of antique should be bought very safely as the varieties and types are huge so be careful of what you need.
